Mother 3 Walkthrough - Chapter 7 (Part 2)
When you land you'll find yourself right next to Bronson who is sunbathing by the ocean. Talk with Bronson and he will act as the HP/PP restoration hot springs for the start of this chapter, simply agree to sunbathe with him and you'll be completely revitalized.
You'll notice an arrow pointing at the ground on this beach too, walk up to it and press A to uncover a crab who tells you to basically walk up to the ocean and interact with it to go swimming and reach the next destination. Believe it or not, this is actually how we will get to the next dungeon & Needle.
Before we do all of that though, let's do some optional stuff in Tazmily first. If you need more money you should follow my advice below to get infinite money.
Money Making Tip: Visit the shop in the Tazmily town square, it's the small brown building where Caroline used to live. She now runs a new version of her old bakery. Purchase Fresh Egg from Caroline and then wait outside of her building (or use the turbo speed on an emulator) and all of the eggs will hatch into Chicks and eventually grow up into Chickens. Each egg costs 40 DP and each Chicken is worth 200 DP.
If you're low on healing foods you should buy a bunch of Fresh Eggs from Caroline and go into a hot springs, this will turn them into Hot Spring Eggs which heal 100 HP each. Another thing worth doing is purchasing Aloha Coats from the snack cart on the beach in Tazmily. These will be useful for an upcoming boss if your main character is not 45+ already. If you're 45+ then you will learn the Psycho-Shield power which will serve the same purpose as these coats.
Once you're done with all the stuff in Tazmily it's time to advance through the next dungeon. Return to the beach where we landed and enter into the ocean; you must enter the ocean in the area south of Bronson - if you try to enter at any other location you won't be able to.
When you enter the ocean you'll notice a breath meter in the bottom left (pictured above). You will also get a brief scene with some Pigmask soldiers kissing the Merman here, this is how you will regain Oxygen while underwater. South of this first Merman you'll find a hole in the ground that will lead you to a present with a Virgo Bracelet inside, this is an upgrade for Kumatora.
East of the Virgo Bracelet you'll find a present with a blue ribbon tucked away in a corner, this contains the Sea Floor Map which will help us navigate the underwater area. When you run out of air underwater you'll be kicked back to the beach with Bronson - so don't worry if this happens to you a few times as you collect treasures.
Tip: Try to always keep moving while underwater, if you stand idle for too long your character will get 'moved around' by the waves and it will waste your breath. Also make sure you talk to the Merman from the front or the side if you want Oxygen, don't talk to them from the back or you'll just waste precious time.
You may have noticed from looking at the map that the path forks early on, inbetween 30w and 40w on the map there is one path that leads to a cave entrance and the other path leads deeper into the dungeon and towards our next destination. The path that leads to the cave entrance will earn you the Awesome Crown item, a very good upgrade for your main character. In order to get this item though you'll need to be very quick.
First, visit the second Merman you encounter when going south from Tazmily, refill your Oxygen here and then backtrack a little bit before you make a run for that tunnel entrance. By the time you reach the next Merman you'll have critical Oxygen levels. You can reach the Awesome Crown easily from this Merman but it's harder to make it back to him. That's ok though, at least you got the crown!
The next complicated part of this dungeon is the area with multiple ladders. Use my map below if you'd like to see where each ladder leads, the southern-most ladder is a duplicate and leads to the same place as the one marked "Loots".
Note: Really none of the loots here are worth getting it's all consumables and no gear, the Trivia Card is the worst item of all because you can't get rid of it and it doesn't work on most mobs so it just takes up space. Unless you're a min/maxer type and wanna see every part of the game etc - I'd just skip this area.
Of all the ladders here, the most important one is the one to the west which leads down to your air Merman. If you plan to get any of this loot you'll have to visit this Merman multiple times. When you're done continue south towards the bottom of the map. You'll find multiple Mermen along the way all of which you'll definitely want to stop at for air.
Eventually if you keep heading south you'll run into the next boss, Master Eddy. When you get close enough to him he will suck you in and the fight will begin. I found this fight to be remarkably easy, debuff him a few times and buff yourself and he'll be hitting you for under 10 damage. Once beaten Master Eddy creates a giant whirlpool that sweeps you away, removes all items from your inventory and sends you to the next area.
A little bit south of the beach you'll find a patch of mushrooms, the only way to get your HP and PP back is to eat them. This will make your characters trip out and start to see things, like your dad and various characters from the story. Follow the linear route through the forest, trash cans are presents and you'll see many mailboxes, these are all optional and they often have weird messages.
You will eventually come across a hot springs and then further up the path you'll climb some vines and eventually reach the next Magypsy's house. Head inside and talk with the pretty girl aka Mixolydia and he will break you out from your hallucination.
Mixolydia aka "Missy" the Magypsy's House
During the scene we learn that the next Needle is on top of the nearby hill and you're also given back all of your missing belongings. Speak with the octopus in here named Ocho to get your stuff back - if you're full inventory burn some consumables to heal yourself and talk to him again. Alternatively, you could go outside and sell to the Mole Cricket that is here too!
This Mole Cricket also sells a lot of weapon and armor upgrades for your characters. Be careful what you buy though, there is a tough boss coming up that uses mostly PSI attacks (Fire, Ice and Lightning). Trading in your armor that grants protection from these elements for more +def isn't the best idea right now. Your main character will find a new weapon soon too so if you're short on money that isn't a great buy either. Ultimately the choice is yours though!
When you're ready to continue with the story enter the cave to the east of the Magypsy's House and make your way through it. The cave won't last long and you'll find yourself outside on a plateau like area. At the first fork in the road you'll want to go west, you'll find a present with a Vigor Stick here. This is the upgrade for your main character that I was talking about earlier.
Keep going north up the mountain and you will eventually run into the save frog. Save and do your normal save frog stuff, when you're ready to fight the boss of this area head north and challenge them (pictured below).
This fight is against 3 Barrier creatures aka the Barrier Trio. For this fight my advice stays the same, debuff the bosses Offense/Defense and buff your own. Duster is good at debuffing during this fight too. You'll have to use PSI Shield during this fight as well since the trio of danger only casts PSI attacks for this entire fight. Refresh that as needed and you should take dramatically less damage for the entire fight. Other than that unload on them with your strongest attacks.
At the end of the fight they will explode and deal 250 damage to everyone in your party (unless you have shields up). You'll want to guard on everyone as fast as possible or use healing items/spells to keep everyone alive. The fight will end in a few more turns. Watch the scene play out after the battle and you'll get Missy's Memento, just like always you're given one of these - if your inventory is full visit his house and collect it from there.
It's time to backtrack all the way down to the beach so that we can return to Tazmily. Make sure you stop by Missy's house because there will be butterflies and a present inside that will restore 200 or so of our PP in total. Now would be a good time to shop at the Mole Cricket too, since we're done the boss that does PSI damage. Buy all the upgrades you want then make your way down to the beach.
Ocho will pop up from the ocean and offer to take you back to Tazmily, accept his offer and take the ride back to town. Exit the beach area to the east and you'll find Alec, talk with him and he'll give you details about where you're going and once again point you to Mapson.
Mapson is found northeast of Alec right before the zone line to the town square (pictured below).
Now that we're back in Tazmily we can't do much here anymore because most people have moved out. If you missed the Shield Snatcher item from Chapter 5 now would be the last time you can go back and get it. Check out my Chapter 5 Walkthrough and look for the mouse and finding her 7 kids part. This item lets you strip the shield off of any enemy and it will make upcoming fights easier.
Or if you're lazy and you'd rather just grind to make the game easier, go for it. When you're ready to continue with the story you'll want to head as far north as you possibly can go. Remember where Alec's home is? We visited it a few times throughout the game, it's the northern most building there is on your map.
Along the way there will be many arrow lizards but they're unnecessary considering that you already know the way. There will eventually be a scene with Kumatora when you get far enough north, she will suggest that you go west at some point and you should listen.
The next area you come across your party will trip and fall and you'll lose the jar of pickles that you're bringing to Ionia. During this event you'll be in control of your dog and you'll have to find various items and bring them back to the main character. If you're playing on an emulator you can create some save states to better control what items you get.
Tip: If you're playing on an emulator create a save state before showing an item to the main character. If you don't get the item you want load your save state and wait a few seconds then try again.
Below are the possible items you can get from each of the things that you find. Figure out what item you want then try to get it by reloading your save state (if you want).
Something Hard: Made-You-Look, Enemy Bufferizer, Super Bomb
Something tasty looking: Nut Bread, Rotten Eclair, Peculiar Cheese, King Burger
Something soft: Fresh Mint, Recollection Ball, Secret Herb
Something small: Pumice Charm (+23 def), Heavy Charm (+26 def), Thud Charm (+30 def)
Something that seems sour: Jar of Yummy Pickles
Look for something that seems sour and you'll find the pickles
When that event is finished continue north and you will reach the new dungeon for us. This dungeon is actually pretty huge, at the start you will find two different cave entrances, the path on the left will take you to a hot spring and the path on the right will lead you to the caves. Right when you arrive in the cave you'll find a Cave Map in the top right of the first room. Make sure you get this since the interior is pretty large.
Outside this dungeon the infamous tree enemies will come back from earlier in the game. When you defeat these guys they will explode and deal mortal damage to your entire team. The best thing to do for this is just to spam the A button and make the fight end. When the fight ends you stop taking damage.
Tip: The Heftyhead enemies sometimes drop the Mystical Stick which is an upgrade for your main character. They also have a battle song that is close to the next boss which make them good enemies to practice on.
I strongly recommend you explore the entire caves and loot all there is to loot because you'll need the EXP. You'll find the Goddess Bustier in these caves which is an upgrade for Kumatora along with the Striped Collar which is an upgrade for your dog. To advance the story you'll want to take the exit in the southeast, this will take you back outside and to Ionia's House.
Before we continue with the rest of the game I would recommend you level to at least 50+ on your main character. When you reach level 50 on Lucas you'll learn Lifeup Omega which heals your entire party for 240 points; this makes the next fight (and the rest of the game) much easier. Lifeup Omega costs a ton of PP but it's the best way to keep your entire party alive through some of the major AoE damage.
Tip: You can talk with Ionia and rest at his house to restore your HP/PP whenever you want.
Talk with Ionia inside of his house and watch the scene. Exit the house and talk with the Mr. Saturn guy standing on the bridge, he's finished polishing the badge that we gave him before. You'll get a Franklin Badge from him, this is a key item. Follow the path and go north of the cave entrance to find a new area, if you visited here before it had a bunch of viny overgrowth and there wasn't much we could do.
Now there will be a scene with the Pigmasks, when the scene is finished you will have a battle. The first fight is against a group of Pigmasks. Once they're beaten you'll be fighting against the Masked Man and you should expect a normal boss fight. Debuff him like normal, buff yourself up and hit him until he goes down.
**Important!!** We're about to advance the game past a point of no return. From this point on we can't return to Tazmily or many of the areas further back/connected to it. This is your last chance to get items like the Shield Snatcher during Chapter 5 and whatever else you may have missed before this point.
When you're ready to proceed into the final chapter of the game, use your Waters of Time on the vines and you'll have a scene. Continue into the cave in front of you and pull the Needle for another scene. During the scene you'll get Ionia's Memento; after it's over you'll be asked to save.
There will be another scene after this during which a Chauffeur will pull up and ask you and your team to get into a limo. Walk around the inside of the limo a bit, use the hot spring and then talk with the driver to end this chapter.
