Mother 3 Walkthrough - Chapter 4

This is kind of the official start of the game. From this point on you will take control of the main character and you will play him until the end. From here on out the game will become harder but it will play a lot more like a traditional RPG. You won't be fighting so much for inventory space and you'll have characters that play more traditional RPG roles.

When this chapter begins it will be 3 years later and a lot has happened in the town during that time. You will regain control of the main character in his house, inspect the mirror to change your clothes. Head outside and talk with your dog, he will join your party.

Cheagie Joins Your Party

You know this town pretty well by this point I would imagine so I am going to give you a list of all the things you need to do here to advance your story. While you're completing each step on this list I would encourage you to do some exploration too and speak with everyone. There are presents all over the place now and you should gather up all you find.

Since this game is starting to play more like a traditional RPG where you have money and can buy/sell items and things of that nature - I am not going to hold your hand as much now telling you where every single present is found.

Steps To Advance The Story:

1. Visit the train station (north of town square) and go to the platform for a cutscene
2. Go to your mother's grave northeast of the cemetery and talk with Flint (your dad). Interact with the grave too
3. Return to the town square for a cutscene
4. Head over to Wess' "house" and talk to him; you can find him upstairs in the middle room

Our quest is now to figure out if the man playing bass is actually Duster or not. We can head to the train tracks and start going east right now if we want - or we can do a little bit more exploring around town (including going north into the forest). You'll find a couple of items in the forest but of note is the Pisces Bracelet which is found in the first part of the forest behind Isaac's house. There will be a tough enemy right next to the present but you don't need to fight him.

The Slitherhen enemies you fight in the forest are some of the best to grind for money. Sometimes they'll drop eggs which you can turn into a Hot Spring Egg by going into the hot spring with it. Or you can wait until it hatches into a Chick then grows into a Chicken and you can sell it for 200 DP. You can get Thunder Bombs just like we did during the previous chapter, by inspecting the area behind Wess' house. This is the only trick you can repeat over and over that still works from the previous chapters.

Money Making Tip: Visit the shop in the town square, it's the small brown building where Caroline used to live. She now runs a new version of her old bakery. Purchase Fresh Egg from Caroline and then wait outside of her building (or use the turbo speed on an emulator) and all of the eggs will hatch into Chicks and eventually grow up into Chickens. Each egg costs 40 DP and each Chicken is worth 200 DP. You can use this trick to stock up on healing items.

Tip: If you want to spend time grinding do that by the hot springs inside of the train tunnel, it's only 4 screens deep or so and easy to find. I advise you to collect a few healing items and push into the train tunnel to unlock PSI magic instead of grinding a lot right now.

When you're ready to unlock PSI and advance the story visit the railway tunnel (pictured below).

Railway Map Acquired

The first time you try to enter into the train tunnel you'll be stopped by a Man and given the Railway Map. If you need healing items you should read my money making trick above, you can get a full inventory of them right now very easily. Keep traveling east inside of the train tunnel and make sure you don't run along the tracks so that you can easily avoid the trains. When you get to screen 4 you'll meet Ionia again, they are one of the Magypsy that you met earlier in the game.

Make sure you speak with Ionia so that you can learn PSI Magic on your main character. You'll learn some restoration and buff spells. Much like Kumatora you will also get sick sometimes when you're about to learn new spells. Continue east as far as you can go, you'll hit another train station at the end. From here you'll want to go north until you reach the Factory.

Enter the Factory via the doorway in the south and a blue pigman will stop you on your way inside. Agree to work a part time job and he will give you the Factory Sketch item which is our map for this area. Mr. Pig Man will give you a run down of what you need to do for this job too. Basically, you need to find low energy Claymen and push them back to the elevator then push them again upstairs.

Pushing Clayman Inside Factory

You can find all 3 Claymen in the basement area - each one will spawn in a different spot. Only one will spawn at a time so search the basement for the Tired Clayman and then push him to the elevator. Talk to the pig once the Clayman is near the elevator and he will push him in and activate it. Upstairs push the Clayman one room south to complete it. Do this same process with all 3.

Return to the same pig that gave you the job and talk to him, you'll get a Ticket and 200 DP. When you get done work it will be dark out, exit the Factory to the north and follow the sign to a building marked Ropeway. Make sure you grab the present outside, it's a blue box which means... Area Map! No really, that's its name - but it makes sense, right?

Opening the map you can see this area is quite large, for now though we'll head inside of the Ropeway building (talk to the guard). Follow the linear path to Club Titiboo and talk to the people at the front door for a scene. Before going into the room at the north you should talk to everyone, the guy in the top right sells DCMC merchandise which is all better gear than the stuff you have now (pictured below).

DCMC Merchandise For Sale
Talk to this guy to purchase new equipment

Buy a hat for you and your dog and a shirt for your main character; sell all of your old equipment. Explore, talk with other people and when you're ready talk with Violet aka Kumatora and go into the northern door. Inside this room you'll want to talk with everyone and then try to leave. After you talk with everyone and try to leave your dog will stop you and tell you to sit down.

Accept the DCMC Pamphlet from the lady on your way out, we need at least one DCMC item for later. Exit the concert room and go west to meet Kumatora, talk with her and follow her down the ladder and through the tunnel. You can check out the southern path for some presents if you want but it's nothing great.

The tunnel leads you to Kumatora's room, there will be a long scene here after which she will let you use the ladder into her attic. Go through the first doorway you see and grab the Attic Guide, blue present = map of the area. You can also find the Item Deposit Guy here if you want to use him. Next to this doorway you will find a white mouse standing on top of a box. This is a vendor who sells a weapon upgrade for you, Better Stick. You should buy this ASAP.

I recommend you explore the entire attic and level up on the monsters here. If you get poisoned use your Healing PSI powers; if you get knocked out return to Kumatora's room and use the hot springs in her bathroom. Our destination is the other ladder that goes down in the attic - if you open your map you'll see two rooms over to the right from where we started there is another ladder that goes down. This is our destination.

The room in the southeastern portion of the attic is the home of two mice (there is a table on the map for this room). Inside you'll find 3 presents that will fully restore your HP/PP when you open them, use these before you visit the final room next door and fight the boss.

You'll be fighting a Jealous Bass, Weeping Guitar and a Beaten Drum. Start with AoE attacks until you get rid of the cohorts then focus on staying alive and beating down the bass. When the fight is over head down into the bedroom and talk with the guy who looks like Duster.

Rock Paper Scissors
Beat all band members in Stone, Sheet & Clippers (why is it called this in the translation?)

Once the scene is over you'll have to play Rock-Paper-Scissors with all of the band members (and then the band leader). You can't lose these games, even if you throw the wrong hand you'll be given a second chance at winning. Beating all of them will get Duster to join you. Leave this room and Kumatora will join your party - the band's all back together again!

Travel through the building and head outside for a scene. Duster gets a nice send off from his band and the main character will release the bird, letting Wess know that Duster has been found. With that, the chapter will conclude.
