Golden Sun: The Lost Age - Walkthrough Chapter 9
The previous chapter of this walkthrough ended with us completing the Jupiter Lighthouse and returning to Contigo. Here you'll find the other group waiting for you from the first Golden Sun game, they're found in the northern building in Contigo - simply walk inside to trigger a scene (pictured below).
When the scene is over the other four Adepts will join your party giving you 8 characters in total. Your battle party size will still be four characters so you can't use all 8 at a time - but you can sub out one of your current Adepts for one of the new ones. So, for example, you could use Felix and Isaac together with Garet and Piers if you wanted a powerful physical damage party.
For now it's up to you what you'd like to do with all of your new team members.
Once everyone joins your party you will have access to a few more Djinni. Shine you can get right now before we leave Contigo and Geode is gotten in Atteka Inlet before we return to our ship. The others are found once you get your ship back.
Shine: Linked Game Only (or use my Codebreaker Code to get the Force Psynergy). Check out Djinni Locations (Part 4) for more information.
Geode, Eddy, Gasp: Geode is found in Atteka Inlet which we're passing through in a moment, the other two are found elsewhere. Check out Djinni Locations (Part 4) for more information.
When you are ready to continue with our quest exit Contigo and visit Atteka Inlet to the south. Return to the boat and you will notice that it's been outfit with wings. At the boat waiting for you will be Hamma and she'll tell you to use Hover to take off while sailing the boat. To use Hover while sailing on the World Map all you need to do is press and hold B. This will allow your boat to levitate in the sky and clear obstacles like the broken reef near Atteka Inlet.
Tip: You should use the four new party members that you just got for the next bit of the game. They won't get EXP unless they're in the active party and the final boss fight requires us to use all 8 characters. You'll make your life easier if you get them some EXP and better weapons/armor during this part of the game.
Before we continue with the story I strongly recommend going out of your way first to do some optional stuff - like collecting the two Djinni I mentioned above. In addition to the two Djinni there are two new summons and also some goodies that we can find in the ocean if you search thoroughly. I recommend you check out the Golden Sun: The Lost Age World Map that I have, on that map you'll find a few locations marked as:
1. Rusty Axe (Captain's Axe)
2. Rusty Mace (Hagbone Mace)
3. Rusty Sword (Pirate's Sabre)
4. Rusty Staff (Goblin's Rod)
5. Rusty Sword (Soul Brand)
The final item on this list, Rusty Sword (Soul Brand) is able to be acquired by us right now. Most of the other items will be outdated by this point but you can collect them if you'd like since we have 4 more characters to outfit with gear now.
I recommend you go out of your way to collect Eddy and Gasp first, then continue with the two summoning tablets if you'd like to get them below. Once you're done with the Djinni and summoning tablets all that's left is to return to Yallam for some crafting (and bonus loot) and then getting back to our journey.
Angara Cavern - Haurus Summon Tablet
This cavern is found north of Loho; if you travel to Loho then go north you should see a big cave on your World Map, that's this location. Check out the Golden Sun: The Lost Age World Map if you need help finding this cave or Loho. Once inside of this dungeon you'll want to go down a few floors until you find a small gray block which you can use your Carry Psynergy on.
Our goal here is to use Carry on the small gray blocks and move them around until you stack them on top of each other to form a pillar that we can jump to (pictured below). Use my screenshot below if you need any guidance about how to properly arrange the blocks.
Inspecting the tablet will grant you the Haurus Summon which costs 3 Venus and 2 Mars to summon.
Stack the blocks like you see in my screenshot to reach the Haurus Summon Tablet
Atteka Cavern - Coatlicue Summon Tablet
To reach Atteka Cavern you'll need to make use of the wings on your ship. If you didn't already know - your ship can actually fly over land now. To fly overtop of land you will need to start Hovering while in the ocean and drive your ship up a beach onto land. Once on land you can fly over everything but mountains and forests.
In order to reach this dungeon you'll want to enter the Atteka continent from a beach on the eastern side. From here you can fly south to the same area you see me at in the picture above. The Atteka Cavern is found along the very southern tip of this island.
Once you make it into this cavern all you need to do is use Parch on the water here and then climb the ladder to reach the tablet.
Yallam - Crafting & Masamune
Note: The Masamune is only available to people who are playing a linked game or people who cheat to obtain the Orb of Force item which grants you the Force Psynergy.
Visiting Yallam is completely optional but strongly recommended since you have new items that can be forged and there is a new weapon that we can obtain within Yallam too. Next to the Blacksmith's hut you will find a tree that you can use the Force Psynergy on. This will knock the tree down and give you access to a patch of grass which you can use Cyclone on.
This will reveal a hole with a ladder that will lead you straight to the chest you see in this area with the Masamune. Aside from this item, the only other thing to do in town would be to talk with Sunshine and have your newly acquired Rusty items and Forgeable items turned into better stuff.
You can only get the Masamune when playing a linked game or if you cheat for Orb of Force
Our goal is to reach the Mars Lighthouse in the north (and Prox) but in order to get there we need to first obtain a cannon and blast away the ice wall. If you speak with the townsfolk in Loho you'll learn that they have a cannon but they don't have any ammunition for it. This sets into motion our next quest, to get the ammunition we need for this cannon we'll have to visit the dungeon of Magma Rock.
You can find Magma Rock in the central part of the central continent. Check out the Golden Sun: The Lost Age World Map for the exact location if you're struggling with finding it. The best directions that I can give you are to fly your boat up the very large river in the southwestern portion of the Gondowan continent. You may be wondering which continent is that? It's the one in the middle of the map.
Use my map below if you're having any trouble reaching Magma Rock, it shows you which river to fly up and where to go. Once you know the route it's actually pretty easy to get here.
Tip: Use Isaac, Garet, Ivan and Mia to level them up during this dungeon. We'll need them for later so it's best to get them some EXP and gear now.
When you arrive at Magma Rock you'll want to use your Lift Psynergy on the big boulder that is blocking the entrance. Before you climb up head inside and inspect the chest to fight a Mimic, once defeated it will drop an Apple which will give you a permanent stat boost. Leave this room and climb up the cliff to reach a statue above.
Use your Burst Psynergy on the statue and it will shoot out a fireball that destroys the pillar in your way. Climb up to the next area and then slide down into a new location. Here you'll have a lone statue that you can use Burst on, unlike the other statues though it will start a timer and when the timer is up it'll "blow its top" and shoot you up if you're standing on top of it.
So basically what you want to do is use Burst on it, jump on top and then depart when you get to the top. Climb across the wall and follow the linear route to the next screen above you. Here you'll have to use Burst on the statue to destroy the pillar and then use the Growth Psynergy on the plants to make them grow.
Note: To learn the Growth Psynergy you'll need to have at least one brown & red (Venus & Mars) Djinni on Felix, Jenna, Isaac or Garet. Pairing these two Djinni will change the users class and grant them the Growth Psynergy. It doesn't matter if you have 3 Venus and 1 Mars or vice versa, as long as you have only these two types paired together on that user. Put the rest on Standby if you need to or trade them to different users.
Use Burst on every statue you find
Really, for this whole screen the route you follow is linear - you just have to slide down when you hit a dead end, use Burst on every statue you find and Growth on every plant. Push every pillar and climb every new path. You've been playing the game long enough that you know the basics, I hope.
After you clear all the obstructions return to the bottom statue and ride it to the new platform. For now up is a dead end so you must continue one screen over to the left. Here you'll find four different slides that you can go down, the two on the far sides are dead ends and the two in the middle are useful. I've included a picture below that shows you what each slide leads to.
One takes you to a chest with 383 Coins inside and the other leads to a rope which you can Lash to a new area. After falling down one of these slides you'll need to use your Burst Psynergy on the statue down here and ride it up to the wall that you can climb. To proceed to the next area choose the slide marked Lash rope in my picture below. This lets you connect a rope to a new area and climb over.
After you climb over the rope that you used Lash on you'll want to cast Burst on the statue and slide down the left slide. This will let you climb back up and jump on top of the statue - from here we can ride it up to another area. This next area has a lot of moving parts so I will explain it in a list format.
1. Go up the wall in the west and use your Move Psynergy on the pillar to push it over
2. Jump across the pillars at the top of the screen to almost break them, then jump onto and break the middle pillar
3. Use your Burst Psynergy on the statue to shoot a fireball at the other pillar to destroy it
4. Climb up the wall that used to be blocked by that pillar and exit the area to the east
Use the list above to navigate this area; or the tips on this picture
When you reach the next screen you'll want to climb down first to create a shortcut and reach a chest with a Salamander Tail. Our next task is to go up and in order to do that we have to dodge a bunch of statues that spit fireballs at us. This is actually pretty easy, all you have to do is wait for it to pass then go up. You can easily avoid these fireballs by hugging the bottom of the wall as much as possible - it will pass right overtop of you.
After reaching the top you'll want to go right as much as possible until you reach an area where you can use Burst on a statue. This will shoot a fireball at a large glowing rock which will cause a massive explosion and grant you access to the interior.
