Yampi Desert Cave Walkthrough - Golden Sun: The Lost Age
You can enter the Yampi Desert Cave early on in the game after obtaining the Sand Psynergy but all you can do at this time is grab the chest with a Water of Life. To find the entrance I recommend you first teleport to Alhafra and from here you'll want to travel south into the Yampi Desert.
Entering Yampi Desert from this direction puts you very close to the Yampi Desert Cave entrance (pictured below). When you enter Yampi Desert from Alhafra you'll want to use your Sand Psynergy at the bottom of the left-most sand waterfall. Ride it up to the top and then travel north and you'll find the same cave entrance that I show below.
Like I said earlier, grab the chest in here that has a Water of Life and head up to the teleportation pad, use Teleport while standing on it and you'll be taken into the dungeon. When you arrive in the new part of the dungeon head north and use Sand on the patch of sand here to get under the rocks and across to the other side.
Keep following the linear path to a dead end where you'll want to use Burst on the broken pillar. After blowing up the pillar go through the doorway and push the logs/pillars out of your way as you work your way north. Use Sand again in the northern part of this room to get under the pillar and to the stairs in the north.
The next room will have some twists and turns, in the top left you'll find some Mythril Silver that you'll have to Scoop out of the ground. Backtrack and take the other path to find a new room where you'll have to use Sand again to get under some rocks. You'll have to use Move on the pillar here too when you surface from the Sand. It will block off the route you just came from but create another.
Exit this room and grab the chest with a Dark Matter in the next room. From here we can only go south into another room with a log/pillar puzzle (pictured below).
You can easily solve this puzzle by following my step by step instructions below. I've marked each of the logs in the picture above with a number to help you understand which one I am talking about.
Log 1 - Down
Log 2 - Up
Log 1 - Up
Log 4 - Right
Log 2 - Use Sand to get behind it and push it down
Log 1 - Use Sand to get behind it and push it down
Log 3 - Use Sand to get behind it and push it to the right
After solving the puzzle you'll want to go south and into the room below you first. In here you'll find a chest with some Orihalcon and a pillar that you can use Burst on to destroy. This will make a shortcut for us in the future. Exit this room and go into the northern room this time, follow the path to the dead end and use Move on the pillar here. We're done in this part of the dungeon for right now, what we need to do now is take that shortcut we just made to return to the entrance of the dungeon (meaning the part of the dungeon we teleported into).
From here you'll want to go to the room we were just in where we moved the pillar. A picture of the room you're looking for is shown below. I'll call this room the Djinni room since the pile of sand you see moving around in here is actually a Djinni!
Use Scoop on the mound of dirt to uncover a Djinni
As usual I am going to encourage you to check out my Djinni Locations (Part 5) for more information about how you can obtain Crystal. Once you've captured him use Pound on the pillar in the north and continue deeper into the dungeon. The next room you come across will have a large pillar you can Move onto a patch of sand - do this to create a path through this room.
You probably guessed already, but now we have to circle through the dungeon to find this same room. Then we can jump across the pillar we just moved to a new area. On the upside the room to the north is the final room of the dungeon and it contains the summon tablet we're after.
The boss of this dungeon is named Valukar and the unique part of this boss is he will use your own Summons against you. Depending on your playstyle this may be a big deal or nothing to worry about. If you're the sort of player that uses a lot of Djinn during combat and summons you'll want to make sure you always use your Summons before he can. That normally means blowing your Summons as quick as possible once they come up instead of waiting for the big ones.
Even if you're not someone who uses Summons, during this fight you'll kind of have to. Many of Valukar's attacks will put your Djinn on Standby which forces you to use a Summon before he does. When the fight is over inspect the tablet to learn another summon, Daedalus. This Summon costs 4 Mars and 3 Venus Djinn to use.
