Animal Item Trades Side Quest - Golden Sun: The Lost Age
This is a trade quest where you have to get an item from the first animal then trade it down the line to various other animals for different items. At the end of this side quest you'll get another Djinni (Meld) as well Turtle Boots and a Rusty Staff. We can turn the Rusty Staff into Dracomace at the Blacksmith in Yallam to make a powerful weapon for this part of the game. You can also come back to this cave later in the game for more loot.
In order to start this quest you'll need to visit an injured penguin in E Tundaria Islet. Depending on your needs I have broken this walkthrough up into two parts. Below you will find a quick list of each location that you have to visit and each thing to do in that location. After that quick list you can find a picture of the World Map which will show you each location in the game - this makes finding each area much easier.
For those of you who get stuck on a part and need more guidance, you can scroll further down this page to the step you're stuck on. I've created pictures and a short walkthrough of each location that gives more details on what you need to do in each area.
Animal Item Trade Side Quest Quick List:
1. Visit E Tundaria Islet and push the injured penguin to her lover, you'll be given a Pretty Stone
2. Head to SE Angara Islet and give the Pretty Stone to the bird for a Red Cloth
3. Go to N Osenia Islet and give the Red Cloth to the Cow for some Milk
4. Next stop is West Indra Islet, where you'll give the Milk to the dog for a L'il Turtle
5. Sail to the Sea of Time Islet and give the Li'l Turtle to the turtle for the Djinni

1. Pretty Stone - Penguins on E Tundaria Islet
You can find E Tundaria Islet by visiting the southeastern snow island on the World Map. Here you'll find two penguins, if you use the Mind Read Psynergy on the male one you'll learn that his love is stuck on the ledge and can't get home. Jump across the ice caps and push the log down so that we can get across. Run across the log and then push Pengulina across the log to her mate. You'll be given the Pretty Stone as a reward for doing this.
2. Red Cloth - Bird in SE Angara Islet
The SE Angara Islet is found in the northeastern portion of the east sea. Use the World Map picture above for a more detailed view of the location. Once you're here you will need to move the top crate down to the bottom area and position it overtop the slide-down spot for the second crate. Push the second crate on top of the first crate and then use your Frost Psynergy on the puddle (pictured above). You will be able to jump across these two platforms to reach the bird nest in the top left of the area.
When you get near the nest the bird will land, use your Mind Read Psynergy on the bird and you'll automatically give it the Pretty Stone in exchange for the Red Cloth.
3. Milk - Cow in N Osenia Islet
In order for us to complete this step we'll need the Sand Psynergy which you get from Gaia Rock. I recommend you check out Chapter 5 of my Walkthrough for more information about how to complete this dungeon and obtain this Psynergy. Once you have Sand you can use it to pass under the jars and get to the cow.
As always you'll want to use Mind Read on the cow to trigger the dialogue we need. Trade the scarf to the cow for some Milk. If for some reason you sold this or any of these items at a vendor, check the Artifacts tab for buying it back.
4. L' il Turtle - Dog in West Indra Islet
Now that you've got the milk sail over to West Indra Islet and visit the dog that's sitting in the water. You can easily reach him by running across the nearby platforms and jumping across the stump. Use Mind Read on him and trade the Milk for a Li'l Turtle.
5. Sea of Time Islet & Rewards
The final destination for our quest is the Sea of Time Islet which is located in the eastern sea. Here you'll find a lonely turtle, when you use Mind Read Psynergy on it you'll automatically start the dialogue to give him the Li'l Turtle. When he offers you a ride accept and you can take this to the cave with your rewards.
Inside this cave you'll find Meld, a Venus Djinni as well as a Rusty Staff which you can give to the Blacksmith to turn into a Dracomace. If you need more information on how to get the Djinni check out my Djinni Locations (Part 3). To find the Rusty Staff go across the log just south of the Djinni and follow the linear route to the chest. It's actually really easy to find.
You may notice other parts of this cave and like there is more to do here... There actually is, but you need the Teleport Psynergy first. So, until you get that you need to leave and come back later.
After Getting Teleport (Djinni + Summon)
Once you get Teleport it's time to return to the Sea of Time Islet and complete the final part of this dungeon. Stand on the teleportation circle near the entrance and use Teleport to enter a new part of the dungeon - from here head north. Go up a few corridors and you will find a statue that is shaking on the left hand side of the screen - this is actually the final Djinni that we can get in this dungeon. Note: The Cruel Dragon enemies in this part of the dungeon have a chance to drop the Tisiphone Edge which is one of the best Short blade weapons in the entire game.
Really all you need to do is run north after teleporting into this new part of the dungeon and you will eventually run into the Sentinel boss shown below. Depending on how prepared you are and what level you are, this fight can be pretty tough. He gets 3 turns per round and heals for 200 HP each round; he also can't be damaged with Psynergy.
Defeat the Sentinel boss and then claim the summoning tablet behind him to learn the Catastrophe summon. It costs 5 Jupiter and 3 Mars Djinn to use and it's like a bigger and better version of Judgment. That's all we came to this part of the dungeon for, we're now free to leave.
