Ahn'kahet: The Old Kingdom Instance Guide

Ahn'kahet is one of two instances that is located in The Pit of Narjun in Dragonblight, just west of Agmar's Hamemr and Star's Rest. The sister instance of Ahn'kahet is Azjol-Nerub which is located practically right next door in The Pit of Narjun. Ahn'kahet is more commonly known as Old Kingdom and is generally abbreviated as OK (Old Kingdom). There are five bosses total inside of Old Kingdom, all but two groups will generally skip as they are just trying to get in and out of the instance quickly.

Since players love to skip the extra bosses in Ahn'kahet it may be a real pain in the rear if you try to get some of the achievements from here.

Elder Nadox

Elder Nadox is a rather simplistic encounter. During the whole fight he will summon little bug adds to attack you which you can either kill or completely ignore, depending on what your group wants to do. The little bugs have very low HP and a simple single form of almost any AoE will take them out. During the fight Elder Nadox will summon an Ahn'kahar Guardian which don't hit very hard and have roughly around 25k HP. At this time Elder Nadox will go immune to all damage, forcing players to focus on the Ahn'kahar Guardian.

Once the Ahn'kahar Guardian dies Elder Nadox will become susceptible to damage again. Elder Nadox may do this once or two during the fight, depending on how long the fight goes on for. The strategy for Elder Nadox has very little change from normal to heroic.

Normal Loot Table:

Blade of Nadox

Crawler-Emblem Belt

Ahn'kahar Handwraps

Heroic Loot Table:

Nerubian Shield Ring

Sprinting Shoulderpads

Brood Plague Helmet

Elder Headpiece

In order to activate the fight with Prince Taldaram you must clear the two platforms right off the large room before the boss. (The two large platforms are right off of the large room with the two giants walking around) In the center of both platforms is a small Nerubian Object. Right click both of these to free Taldaram and allow your encounter with him.

Prince Taldaram

As for the boss himself, he has several abilities worth mentioning, one of them being Flame Sphere. For Flame Sphere Prince Taldaram will conjure up a large fiery ball in the sky. This ball will then sporadically fly around and deal AoE fire damage to anyone it gets close enough too. Another two abilities are worth mentioning as well that this boss uses in unison. One of them is Vanish. This works the same way as a Rogue's Vanish. Taldaram will disappear and become immune to attacks for a short period of time before he reappears next to a random party member.

When Taldaram reappears he will cast Embrace of the Vampyr on that party member. This will drain their health until Taldaram is done channeling the spell or until the party does a certain amount of damage to Taldaram. The only real difference between this fight on heroic and normal is that Taldaram will require more damage to be dealt to him in order to break this channel. Also it is recommend if your healer sucks or you're running the dungeon with a lesser-geared group, have your Paladin (If you have one) switch to Fire Resistance Aura. This will help negate a large amount of the AoE damage done by Flame Sphere.

Normal Loot Table:

Slasher's Amulet

Gloves of the Blood Prince

Talisman of Scourge Command

Heroic Loot Table:

Gauntlets of the Plundering Geist

Flame Sphere Bindings

Bonegrinder Breastplate

Necklace of Taldaram

The trash leading up to Jedoga is hellishly over powered since most of them are casters or elementals. The tank will need to know what he is doing and LoS the trash mobs so he can easily build agro on all of them and so each one won't be attacking someone different. Another thing to keep in mind is don't stand in the Flamestrike that they use on the ground. It hurts and if the whole group is standing in it the AoE damage adds up and makes it very difficult for the healer.

Jedoga Shadowseeker

Jedoga Shadowseeker is the third boss of Ahn'kahet Old Kingdom and is skipped by most of the groups that run this instance since she is such an annoying boss.

As for Jedoga Shadowseeker, she has two moves that are really worth mentioning. The first is when she floats up into the air and calls forth a Twilight Volunteer to come towards her. If this Volunteer reaches her she will get a huge damage buff and return to the ground to attack your party. If you manage to kill the Volunteer then Jedoga will not recieve a damage buff and return to the ground. It is up to you to decide whether or not you want to kill the Twilight Volunteer. If you don't kill any of them that Jedoga chooses then at the end of the fight you will recieve an Achievement. Depending on your groups gear, you may or may not be able to get this Achievement.

One thing you may want to watch out for is if you do mistakenly miss killing a Twilight Volunteer get far away from Jedoga when she lands. She will use an ability called Cyclone Strike which hurts, especially with her new damage buff.

Normal Loot Table:

Cloak of the Darkcaster

Battlechest of the Twilight Cult

Jedoga's Greatring

Heroic Loot Table:

Faceguard of the Hammer Clan

Shadowseeker's Pendant

Edge of Oblivion

Subterranean Waterfall Shroud

Herald Volazj

Herald Volazj is a pretty straight forward encounter until he gets down to 50% health. At 50% health Herald Volazj will start to cast a spell called Insanity. This spell will phase out everyone in the group and force them to fight mirror images of their whole party. Each person will have roughly 10-12k HP and has exceptionally low armor. Once you kill all of the shades you're tasked to kill you will be able to help your party members with the ones they are required to kill. If you can't kill all the shades by yourself then your group will phase back in soon enough to help you out.

The biggest annoyance of this boss is right after the first Insanity he will do another one, forcing the group to fight even more shades and inconviencing everyone even more. If your group kills this boss in under 2 minutes than they will recieve the Achievement "Volazj's Quick Demise."

Normal Loot Table:

Pyramid Embossed Belt

Volazj's Sabatons

Mantle of Echoing Bats

Heroic Loot Table:

Fiery Obelisk Handguards

Kilt of the Forgotten One

Staff of Sinister Claws

Greaves of Ancient Evil

Skirt of the Old Kingdom

Titanium Compound Bow

Wand of Ahn'kahet

Bracers of the Herald

Design: Precise Scarlet Ruby

Amanitar

Amanitar is the optional boss of Ahn'kahet Old Kingdom that only spawns on Heroic Difficulty. Probably more than 90% of the groups that run Old Kingdom skip this boss and if they don't skip the boss they compeltely ignore the strategy that is supposed to be used. For the sake of arguement I will list the strategy for this boss anyway. At the start of the encounter Amanitar will spawn dozens of mushrooms. As for now you will want to ignore all of the mushrooms that he spawns.

Towards the end of the encounter Amanitar will make everyone small. At this point players will want to kill one of the good mushrooms that Amanitar has spawned around the room. Be sure to kill a good mushroom and not a poisonous mushroom otherwise you will be in for an unpleasant treat. The strategy that most groups use for Amanitar is completely ignore the mushrooms and just balls to the wall DPS on Amanitar, which also works but sometimes will take longer depending on your group and when Amanitar decides to shrink you.

Heroic Loot Table:

Legguards of Swarming Attacks

Amanitar Skullbow

Amulet of the Spell Flinger

Silken Bridge Handwraps
