Great Canyon & Ogre Fortress - Digimon World 1

The Great Canyon is an area found east of Overdell, in order to gain access to it though you'll first need to speak with Yuramon. He's the floating ball Digimon outside of Jijimon's House, if you have 6 Prosperity Points in town he will tell you about an invisible bridge which you can find in the Great Canyon Entrance map.

Connected to the Great Canyon is the Ogre Fortress, both of these locations are paired together. There are four recruitable Digimon to be found throughout this area with Ogremon's recruitment starting here but completing somewhere else.

After entering the Great Canyon, return to Yuramon and speak with him again to learn about "the bandits" this flag is needed to find Ogremon.

Monochromon

Monochromon Great Canyon

Requirement: N/A

Recruiting Monochromon is probably the biggest pain in the butt in the entire game since it's entirely RNG based. From the moment you walk into the shop and begin the mini game - there is a chance you have no possibility of success (about 50% chance of no success). It all depends on what items the Digimon ask to buy when they enter the shop.

There is a good write up about this shop on the fandom that goes over a lot of the math. Basically, this game uses RNG seeds that can be influenced by a variety of actions like picking up items, having negative happiness for your Digimon and moving around the game world. For more details about how to influence the RNG seed check out this Youtube Video.

Most of the time you can only achieve around 1500 Bits for completing this minigame... To recruit Monochromon you'll need a total of 3075 Bits from the game, more than double the average that you get. After doing it a few times you'll start to understand how annoying this is.

Even if you're someone who doesn't normally use Save States or like to save scum, I strongly encourage you to do so. You'll want to save after every NPC comes in and sometimes even during the haggling process to ensure you get the right price without pissing them off.

Success for this event comes down to one item, Medicine. The Medicine items are where you will make the most profit, with Portable Potties being a far off 2nd. If you want to know whether or not a Monochromon layout will be worth your time, save state outside and run through all 20 customers to see if you get enough Medicines to win. You'll need at least 3 - 4 Medicine sales to win, if the Medicines are being sold to Goburimon that is even better for you since you can easily rip them off.

Tips & Tricks For Recruiting Monochromon:

- NEVER let a customer walk away, this will result in one other customer not showing up at the end.

- Each type of customer has a different temperament and will accept more haggling. Goburimon and Gotsumons you can rip off the most, Weedmons are very fickle and will storm out sometimes even if you offer them an item at base price.

- Try to make a sale even if the face on the customer says otherwise. Just use a save state incase they walk away.

- If you have a Sukamon or a Numemon, this is a great Digimon to try and recruit as you wait for the lifespan to deplete.

Shellmon

Shellmon Great Canyon

Requirement: Defeat Ogremon inside of the Ogre Fortress

When you beat Ogremon at the Ogre Fortress he will escape through an elevator, follow him and continue along the path until Shellmon talks to you. Once you trigger this event, return to the canyon elevator that is east of the Monochromon shop/town area. From this elevator go west to Freezeland and then once you're in Freezeland go southwest, this will take you to Shellmon.

Ogremon (Encounter #1 & #2)

Ogremon First Encounter Great Canyon

Requirement: N/A

Ogremon is a Digimon that you have to beat in battle 4 times in 4 different areas to make him join you. In order to trigger this event to happen you must speak with Yuramon in File City to learn about 'the bandits' in this location. Yuramon is the same Digimon that told you about the invisible bridge to the Great Canyon in the first place. The first two locations you encounter Ogremon will be in Great Canyon/Ogre Fortress, the picture above shows you the first location and the picture below will show you the second.

Your first time encountering Ogremon will be in Great Canyon inbetween the 'town' and the elevator. Basically, enter Great Canyon by the Monochromon town/invisible bridge area and travel east towards the elevator. Ogremon will ambush you with two Agumon on your way through this area.

Ogremon Second Encounter Great Canyon

After you beat Ogremon the first time you have to go looking for him to find him again. This time, ride the elevator down (or fall down the cliff) and search the bottom portion of the Great Canyon for the Agumon guarding an entrance to a large fortress. When you talk with this Agumon he'll flee inside, follow him and search the fort to find Ogremon again.

Defeating Ogremon the second time will open up Shellmon for recruitment, so make sure you do that too! Below are the other two locations you can encounter Ogremon, follow the links for more information.

Ogremon Locations:
1. Great Canyon, run towards the elevator and he will ambush you
2. Great Canyon, take elevator or ledge down to canyon floor and scare the Agumon you see down here and then follow him inside
3. Freezeland, talk with Whamon to travel to his cave, you'll find Ogremon here
4. Drill Tunnel, Ogremon will take control of the Drill Tunnel. Enter and beat him the final time to make him join you.

Birdramon

Birdramon Great Canyon

Requirement: N/A

Birdramon is a very important Digimon to recruit since he will give you a fast travel building in File City. This will let you fly to multiple areas throughout the game for a small fee of Bits. You can find Birdramon by riding the elevator up in the Great Canyon and then walking into his nest.

Make sure you are prepared for a tough fight, depending on your Digimon Birdramon can be pretty hard. For example, my poop Digimon did very... very poorly (well yea, no #$%^ you may think).

Nanimon

Nanimon 2nd Encounter Ogre Fortress

Requirement: Defeat Ogremon inside of the Ogre Fortress

After beating Ogremon inside of the Ogre Fortress you'll be able to find Nanimon at the same location. To trigger Nanimon's spawn you will need to leave the entire area and return (by area I mean leave Great Canyon and come back to it).

If you'd like to learn more about Nanimon and the locations he is found check out my Nanimon Recruitment Guide for more information.

All Nanimon Locations
1. Ancient Dino Region in the same area as Meteormon.
2. Ogre Fortress, found in the boss room where we battled Ogremon.
3. Leomon's Ancestor's Cave in Drill Tunnel, search the area where you get the tablet.
4. Toy Town, in the boss room.
5. Factorial Town, in the sewers north of where Numemon is found.
