D-pad: Move character, navigate menus
A button: Confirm, talk to characters, interact with objects, select moves
B button: Cancel, hold down while moving to run
L button: Nothing in overworld, switch Pokemon in battle
R button: Nothing in overworld, access Bag in battle
Start button: Open menu, pause game
Select button: Nothing in overworld, access Pokedex in battle

During battles:

D-pad: Choose moves, switch Pokemon
A button: Select moves, confirm actions
B button: Cancel actions, go back to previous menu
L button: Switch Pokemon
R button: Access Bag
Start button: Open menu, pause game
Select button: Access Pokedex
