Final Fantasy V

Before I get into this review I need to say that I am one of the biggest Final Fantasy fans out there. I love these games and they are what got me into RPGs as a whole. That being said, I hadn't actually played Final Fantasy V until 2016 and after playing it.... It quickly beat out some of the other Final Fantasies I played for one of my favorites of all time.

Final Fantasy V has what I would say is probably the second best sound track of the entire series. In particular Lenna's Theme gives me chills every time I hear it. This song is as beautiful as Aerith's Theme from 7 or Relm's Theme from 6. It's just an absolute masterpiece... When that bass comes in... man oh man....

As you can tell already... I loved this game. It is a masterpiece. It's a crime that it never got an american release and that someone had to translate it and turn it into a ROM for all of us to enjoy.

This Final Fantasy uses the Job system which was a revolutionary change to RPGs and paved the way for many other great ideas that expanded upon this system. It is kind of like the job system in FF3, but FF3's job system was total garbage, as was the game. In FF5 the purpose of a job isn't to keep it but rather master it then towards the end of the game you make your character a freelancer, which is their default job.

After you do this they gain ALL the passive benefits of their other jobs and you can make one seriously overpowered character if you build them right. If you enjoy this game I strongly recommend you research what jobs you want/what jobs are good before getting too far into the game. This will save you a lot of grinding towards the end and careful planning will make the experience all the better.

Ironically, the worst part of FFV is the story. That isn't to say the story is bad, but it isn't as amazing as other final fantasies. I personally enjoyed everything about the story except the main villan. Everyone's side story was phenomenal. Galuf, Faris, Lenna, Butz.. their character building stories are what made this game so good for me. I got very invested into my characters and the game will have you laughing and crying from the attachment to the main cast.

If you are a fan of Final Fantasy or just a fan of RPGs this game is an absolute must play for the Super Nintendo. This game will give you that nostalgic feeling even if you hadn't played it in the 90s and the soundtrack will cement some beautiful memories that you'll have for the rest of your life.

I'm not big on giving out perfect scores but I can't help it. This game gets a perfect 5/5 for me. It's hands down a masterpiece.
