Parasite Eve: The Third Birthday

Story 2/10
Soundtrack 5/10
Graphics 9/10
Gameplay 7/10
Controls 3/10
Overall 3/10

Growing up I played both Parasite Eve 1 and 2 and was a huge fan of both of these games. This game was nothing even remotely like either of those games. It's more action adventure than the first two and much less role playing. Also they botched the Aya character as a whole and pretty much this entire installment to the franchise. If it was just one thing alone that made this game bad I would let it slide but there's too much wrong with it as a whole. Where to even begin...

Story 2/10

Ok so you need some serious suspension of disbelief in order to believe the shit they try and shove down your throat with this story. First off, this apparently isn't the same Aya from the first two games so if you're a fan of the first two you're already a little pissed off by that. Second major issue is the whole premise of the plot. I mean, you're a time traveling body jumper. Seriously? You expect me to buy that? I mean if you're going to feed me some bullshit at least just feed me a little. They seriously went all out here, a time traveling body jumper.

Soundtrack 5/10

Probably one of two things worth salvaging from this game is the fact that they used some of the same songs from the first two Parasite Eve games. The opening to the game got me so excited because they used the same song and nostalgia hit. Shortly after my dreams were crushed though by the gameplay/controls.

Graphics 9/10

The second thing that is decent about this game are the graphics. For a handheld it has pretty good graphics, really no complaints here about them. Since Aya doesn't get many armor choices you get to stare at her bare ass since her shorts are torn. I bet the developers did that hoping her ass would make this game less sufferable.

Gameplay 7/10

So, is the game fun to play? Well actually yea it kinda can be at times when it isn't totally frustrating. I had a decent amount of fun with it up until about mission 3 which is when the really bad controls first reared their ugly head. Honestly if you can get past the controls and you don't care at all about the story you may actually enjoy this game.

Controls 3/10

If you thought what i had to say about the story was bad what I have to say about the controls is even worse. In particular the overdive mechanic/controls combined with Liberation mode. Like jeeze I wanted to scream because you keep overdiving into people as you try and activate Liberation. Honestly, more than anything that's why I stopped playing the game. I can deal with crappy controls if you give me a half decent story.

Overall 3/10

I was extremely disappointed by this game, honestly if it was even remotely good I would have sat through it just because I am a fan of Parasite Eve but that wasn't the case at all this with game. It was so terrible I couldn't make it past the third mission I hated it and think the fact that the game was even created tarnishes the Parasite Eve franchise and whomever made it should feel ashamed of having made such a piece of trash.
