Persona 3 FES Review

Persona 3 FES was my very first Persona game and I must say I absolutely loved it, I am a solid fan of the series now. This game and series is a turn based RPG that takes place in the real world and is set in Japan. This game works a lot differently than most other RPGs that there are out there and it's what makes it so unique. This game is linear in the sense that you are stuck on a set path that progresses through the game at a set speed, more or less. This is probably the worst part about the game.

To elaborate more, this game takes place over the course of 1 year and once you pass a day you can't go back. Since characters in the game get tired and fatigue you also are limited by how much you can grind each day as well. This makes the game take more long term planning than most other RPGs that you may be used to. If you reach a boss and aren't prepared for it you'll be unable to go back and level up more which could end in you being stuck on that part. This almost happened to me once.

Story

Soundtrack

The soundtrack to this game is absolutely amazing!! This is one of the games that gets away with putting songs that have lyrics in their game and they do it quite well. I have left my character idle at Gekkoukan High just to hear the song!

Graphics

Can't say I have any complaints about the graphics of this game either. It looks great for a PS2 game. On the PCSX2 Emulator I used to play the game it didn't have any screen tearing or graphical issues either.

Gameplay

Persona 3's gameplay is much like that of most other turn based RPGs. The main difference, and the worst part of the game, is that the entire game is timed. It isn't so rigorously timed that you won't be able to enjoy the game but it's definitely one of the less interesting features of Persona 3. The whole game takes place over the course of about a year and you're only able to do so much during the course of a single day.

For those of you out there who are really only interested in a single play through to experience the game's story this shouldn't be an issue for you. Any of you completionists though will pull your hair out with this game since there's pretty much no way you're doing everything on your first play through.
