Qeynos Catacombs - Classic EQ Leveling Guide

Qeynos Catacombs

Qeynos Catacombs is a semi-newbie zone that caters to the more nefarious in nature of Everquest with its twisty and confusing pathways, its sewer system filled with territorial fish, and its hidden Temple of Bertoxxulous. This hidden Temple is where you can find GM’s for Shadow Knights, Warriors, Clerics, Necromancers, Magicians, Enchanters, and Wizards; there are also plenty of spell merchants and a scraggly looking banker.

The Zone itself is extremely confusing. Before you enter it you are strongly advised to have a reliable map, or a friend who is extremely proficient with running around this labyrinth. In addition to its cramped walls, with writing carved into the stone or blood red images painted on top of it, the zone has numerous sewer waterways that lead to other parts. These sewers hold Piranhas and sharks which will attack you as soon as possible.

If you get lost and are having trouble finding your way, first things first; don’t panic! Use your height filter on your map and it will filter out levels above and below you; this may not solve your problem, but it’ll definitely get rid of some of the background mess and help you focus on what’s ahead of you. Be aware that the Catacombs have multiple false walls and pitfalls; the pitfalls are easily recognized on the map by their bright red outline, so stay away unless you want to be shark food!

Getting to Qeynos Catacombs is fairly simple because there’s six way of entering. The three entrances in North Qeynos are by diving into a well which is hidden by a false wall east of the city gates, by swimming into the sewer outside of the Crows Bar, and by going through a false wall with a crow painting at the back of the Crows Bar.

Getting to Qeynos Catacombs from South Qeynos is just as numerous as from North Qeynos. The three entrances are by swimming into the sewer from the pond by the bank, by swimming under the docks, and by using a tunnel by the arena to walk into the sewers.

There are multiple mobs down here for soloers but not many camps, if any, for a group of adventurers. The mobs you’ll be fighting are primarily beggars (level 5), bats (levels 3-5), skeletons (levels 1-6), fire beetles (level 2), gelatinous cubes (levels 4-20 depending on area), rats (levels 1-4), snakes (levels 1-4), spiders (levels 2-4), piranhas (level 2), Sharks (level 17), thugs and smugglers (levels 6-8), and zombies (level 8). There are lots of mobs walking through those passages and sewers, so be wary of where you pull.

Qeynos Catacombs is a very confusing zone to say the least. A new player is strongly advised to carry a good map with them and travel here at your own risk. People can fight here as a low level player, but there are so many other places with easier and safer amounts of experience; but this is a unique zone which people should check out if they get a chance.
