Dark Whelpling Farming Locations (Classic - WoTLK)

Scalding WhelpSearing Whelp

The Dark Whelpling is another one of the few vanity pets in Classic WoW that you're able to farm from whelps. Unlike the other vanity pets, there are actually two locations that you're able to farm for this whelpling. The first of which is in the eastern portion of Badlands surrounding Lethlor Ravine.

In the Badlands the enemy you're looking for is a Scalding Whelp. These whelps only spawn on the outskirts of Lethlor Ravine; throughout the inner portion of Lethlor Ravine there will be elite dragons which don't drop the whelp you're after, so avoid them.

As for the second location that you can farm the Dark Whelpling, it's in the southern portion of Dustwallow Marsh, in the area surrounding Onyxia's Lair. In this zone you're looking for the Searing Whelps. For help finding either of these enemies, use my map locations on the page.

Depending on your gathering professions determines which of the two locations you'll want to farm. Miners will want to do the Badlands location as you'll find a ton of Mithril Ore at the same time. Herbalists will want to do Dustwallow location since there are a ton of different herbs that you'll find while farming here. A list of everything you can find at each location is included below.

To make things easier, I have included a quick list of all the different herbs and mines that you'll find in both the Badlands and Dustwallow farming locations. Skinners will find the same leather in both locations, though in the Dustwallow area if you take on the higher level dragonkin here you'll find more Black Dragonscales than in Badlands.

Badlands Mines: Mithril Deposit, Truesilver Vein, Gold Vein

Dustwallow Mines: Mithril Deposit, Iron Deposit, Gold Vein

Badlands Herbs: Firebloom, Kingsblood, WIld Steelbloom

Dustwallow Herbs: Liferoot, Khadgar's Whisker

For those of you interested in only the Whelpling, I would recommend the Badlands camp over the one in Dustwallow. Also, players on a PvP server will be under constant threat of being ganked in the Dustwallow Marsh location due to how close we are to Onyxia's Lair. That said, on my server in particular I find that many more people farm for this whelp in Badlands than they do in Dustwallow.
