Differences between state of decay 1 and 2
Tier Normal/nightmare/early hell mode:
magic amulets/rings etc for 10fcr and + skills on amulets make them worth it to pick up early on but lose value as soon as you get a couple decent enough rares/uniques to replace them. For crafting it's good to get ilvl 88+ amulets but I recommend not picking them up and just get to level 93 and gamble for them. if you gamble at lvl 93 every magic amulet you use for crafting is able to get +2 class skills. For gambling magic rings its kinda worth it to spend some time and try to gamble +40 MF rings but its rare and really not worth the time in most cases.
Tier 1: what everyone should pick up no matter where you are in the game.
Magic Circlets/tiaras/coronets/diadems - 3 skill/20fcr circlets, frw 3os circlets, circlet of Life Everlasting (Damage Reduced by 10-25), etc.
Magic Monarch shields - Jewelers monarch of x (usually deflecting) are incredibly powerful and have a ton of trade value and viability of use. Although they're incredibly rare
magic jewels and small/grand charms - for obvious reasons. Keep all garbage jewels for crafting.
Tier 2: what you should pick up if you value specific builds/classes and want to either make characters. Many of these are tradable, but incredibly rare to get decent mods worth keeping. This is what I keep on my single player/plugy characters, but don't bother with when playing online/private servers.
Magic barbarian helms - look for + barb skills/ war cry skills and +2-3 Battle orders. The best of the best has +3 warcry +3 BO and another mod like life or strength or whatever.
Magic Druid Pelts - same thing as barb, +3 elemental +3 tornado/hurricane pelts are the goal here.
Magic sorceress Orbs - +3 sorc/fire skills +3 enchant, 3/3 blizz, orb, or lightning orbs with a chance to get +20 fcr on them are also possible, although rare.
Magic javelins- +3 zon +3 lightning fury with 40% increased attack speed is the goal here. incredibly rare, but if you find it, it's amazing and has incredible value. I however don't pick these up in my single player because I prefer titans/tstrokes over them because of the low quantity and need to go to town and repair often thing. Tstrokes have similar damage output, but the 6/40 magic ones are best in slot if you can deal with the constant repairs. Amazing for PvP as well.
Magic elite body armors, specifically Dusk shrouds, Wyrmhides, Scarab Husk, Wire Fleece, great hauberks, and archon plates - Look for 4 socket Jewelers armors of Life or stability(faster hit recovery). these are amazing for socketing them with 4 facets for a amazon or sorc or other unique builds. The reason the ones I listed are preferred is because they're light type armors and you dont suffer a run speed penalty with them. Some are stoppable (like Archon plates, but incredibly rare to get a archon plate shopping and on top of that you have to hit the jackpot). A 4 socket ancient armor jewelers is possible to shop, however they have much lower defense and are a medium type armor, which means slower to run with them.
Claws, specifically runic Talons and greater talons - look for +3 traps/ 3 light sentry claws with increased attack speed. The reason you want those specific claws above is because they have the fastest rate of base attack speed and that increases trap laying speed. they're best in slot on a assassin. You can shop at anya too, which is why i ignore other types of magic claws but i always pick up magic greater and runic talons.
Magic medium (large) charms - A lot of people ignore these but they can have some pretty sick Max/Ar/life or Max/ar/fhr stats on them. I pick them all up personally because i love melee characters.
Tier 3: "I don't care how long things take, I don't want to miss a thing"
magic wands - not that great but you can look for 3/3 bone spirit 3/3 poison nova and 3/3 corpse explosion wands with 20 fcr. They're pretty out there and specific but rare and unique wands are better usually.
magic necro shields - same thing as wands, but I ignore these because usually unique necro shields or a spirit monarch are usually better. Very niche.
Magic gloves - these are here because they're easier to shop than to pick up. Look for +3 bow/java skills with +20 IAS. For crafting its better to buy/gamble gloves from vendors with level specific characters most of the time.
magic boots/belts - not worth it although +gold find and +40 resist is nice, but again, they're shoppable much more easily and not worth the time to pick up.
Magic paladin shields - i guess you can look for +3/3 concentration or other skill shields but 99.99% of the time HoZ or spirit are the better shields in slot.
Magic scepters - It's incredibly rare to get +3/3 or 2/3 blessed hammer and concentration scepters with fcr, but it's possible. They're so rare and Hoto runeword is so good on Hdin that its really not worth bothering with. If you get it tho it's a hell of a keeper. You can also shop these from akara.
magic swords, specifically colossus blade/swords - worth it back in the day to get cruel of quickness (ED and IAS) weapons but rare eth ones are preferred these days since runewords are so powerful.
Magic elite axes specifically berserker axes - used for crafting, however you cant get a eth elite craft so these are limited in their potential compared to rare eth weapons, especially since you can upgrade eth rares.
If you're on classic, many a few other things become viable to pick up, but that's another story.

belts and boots with 35+ fire/light resist and 75+ gold find
3os helm with life or fhr
teleport charged staves
3 enchant 2 os white staves
3 bone spear 2 os white wand
3 CE / 1-3 AMP wands
javalins with prevent monster heal for early dclone killing.
armors with resists for early game
staves for early game and teleport charged staves from act 3 normal and beyond.
