Paper Mario is a role-playing video game developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64 console. It was released in Japan in 2000 and in North America and Europe in 2001. In Paper Mario, players control the character Mario as he embarks on a quest to rescue Princess Peach from the villainous Bowser and restore peace to the Mushroom Kingdom. The game features a unique visual style that utilizes 2D characters and environments made to look like paper cutouts, hence the name Paper Mario.

The gameplay combines traditional RPG elements with platforming and puzzle-solving mechanics. Players explore various locations, interact with characters, engage in turn-based battles, and collect items and power-ups to aid them on their journey.
