Sonic Advance 2 Controller Layout & Button Combinations

Controls

D-pad: Move left and right, duck, and look up
A button: Jump and confirm selection
B button: Spin attack and cancel selection
R button: Dash (requires certain conditions)
L button: Not used in this game
Start button: Pause the game and bring up the menu

In addition, Sonic Advance 2 also features the ability to use a team of two characters to perform special moves, activated by pressing the L button and R button simultaneously. The controls for these moves are as follows:

Sonic and Tails:

Press A button while in the air to perform the "Tail Swipe" move, which damages enemies and breaks certain obstacles.

Knuckles and Amy:

Press A button while standing still to initiate the "Hammer Down" move, which creates a shockwave that damages enemies and breaks certain obstacles.

Cream and Cheese:

Press A button while in the air to use Cheese to fly, which allows access to certain areas and items.
