Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony

Story 5/10

Graphics 6/10

Gameplay 8/10

Controls 8/10

Overall 6/10

Dungeon Siege is an action adventure RPG very similar to the Diablo franchise. So pretty much what it boils down to is if you like Diablo and games like Diablo, you'll most likely enjoy this game. The combat system is pretty straight forward and is generally decent, it can get a little clunky with the auto targeting system and trying to save your brain dead followers lives when they're off trying to play hero. The game lacks a lot of depth which normally makes these types of RPGs decent but that is to be expected considering it is on a console.

Story 5/10

The story for this game is fairly generic and I didn't really pay much attention. Each of the different main characters gets a different story but they all follow the round about same path throughout the game. I chose Mogrim and his race is cursed and blah blah blah. I wasn't really impressed by the story this game had to offer but I am assuming most of us who play this game are playing it for the hack and slash RPG not to scroll through hours of text.

Soundtrack 6/10

Nothing to amazing but nothing that really annoyed me. I felt each song went quite well with the area you were in but nothing really popped out at me or stuck with me after the gaming experience.

Graphics 6/10

The game has pretty decent graphics, nothing I can really argue about. They fit the game perfectly and there isn't any screen tearing and there is very little graphical lag. During one or two parts of the game it'll get a bit choppy because of the graphics but that's about it.

Gameplay 8/10

Well the gameplay is as you would expect from an action adventure RPG. Like I have said already, the game play is like Diablo!! My main two gripes about this game are the followers, which are hands down the worst part about this game. They're just.... so dumb. I used Bessy almost the entire time since she seemed like the least stupid of them (ironic considering she's a donkey) but all the followers generally run into a pack of mobs, not the mob you're fighting and get themselves killed. It's really annoying and it happens constantly and definitely got this game docked a point in gameplay for me.

The second biggest gripe is the game has a few bugs, some of them possibly game breaking. One of these bugs is while you're fighting everything just "Locks up". Mobs stand in place and don't take damage but you can still move around/attack and explore. But the game feels frozen in time and no actions can be sent to it. The only way out of this is to reload your previous save. For people like me that use primarily save states... This could royally bone you if you save state *after* this bug occurs. It almost happened to me.

Controls 8/10

The controls are as good as I could picture them getting for a hand held action RPG. Only one single complaint which is I wish they let you assign more than just a few buttons to abilities. In particular what I wanted to do was remap some of the keys entirely within the game and not having to remap my entire controller.

Overall 6/10

All in all if you are looking for an action adventure RPG you're probably going to enjoy this game. There are definitely better games for you to play out there though that have way more depth and replay value than this game. What I am saying is unless you're dead set on this Dungeon Siege, try one for the PS2 or PC instead. This game is definitely fun to play and worth checking out, but exhaust your other options first!

As aforementioned one of the biggest and only major flaws I found with the game is that the followers are completely brain dead and the auto targeting really can be a nuisance for trying to save them. Most of the melee followers in the game run off and try to play hero, usually engaging the mob's friend instead of the mob you're fighting. This results in a relatively quick and extremely painful death for them.
