Timesplitters 3 Future Perfect Review

Timesplitters 3 is a FPS game for the Gamecube, Playstation 2 and Xbox consoles. It's the third game in the Timesplitters series and arguably the best one. This series was made popular by its use of tongue in cheek humor and silly antics matched with some of the best FPS gameplay of the time. The first two Timesplitters have an archaic aiming system but Timesplitters 3 uses much more comfortable controls, ones that most modern day gamers will be familiar with for FPS games.

What makes Future Perfect worth playing all these years later is its entertaining story, great controls and tons... tons of tongue in cheek humor. Over the 8 or so hours it will take you to complete the story you'll get quite a few good laughs from this game. I refuse to spoil any of the jokes, just play it to see! Ontop of the story mode they also have an Arcade mode and Challenges mode in the game, both offer you stuff to do once you've conquered the story. The game of course has a Multiplayer too.

Story 8/10
Soundtrack 7/10
Graphics 8/10
Gameplay 8/10
Controls 8/10
Overall 8/10

Story 8/10

As aforementioned the story of Timesplitters 3 is the whole reason I recommend you play it! It won't be a mind blowing original story that keeps you on the edge of your seat and guessing at every turn. But it will be an extremely entertaining ride with a lot of humor to make you laugh and smile. When getting into this game you shouldn't expect your noggin to be strained following some complex story, just relax, chill out and enjoy what the game has to offer!

All that said it'll take most players 6 - 8hrs to beat the story if you choose normal or easy difficulty. Of course if you try tackling this game on hard it'll be a different story.

Soundtrack 8/10

The soundtrack to Future Perfect isn't that amazing nor is it that terrible. The soundtrack is very fitting for the entire game; none of the ingame sounds are out of place and every level has a fitting song to go along with it that matches your environment. However none of the songs really jump out at you or are that memorable.

Graphics 8/10

I personally can't think of any complaints with the graphics in Timesplitters 3. For a game of this era they look great.

Gameplay 8/10

At the end of the day, Gameplay is really all that mattes for the game. Is it fun? Is really the only question we need answered and yes, this game is fun. I personally didn't do much outside of the story in this game, I did a little bit of the Arcade but not much. The main story counts for 20% of the game and each Arcade mission was .5% or so.

Controls 8/10

The controls for this game are spot on as far as FPS games go. As I mentioned before a lot of FPS games before this era have controls which feel really archaic these days. I'm talking about the ones that only use 1 stick for moving and aiming and to aim you have to stop moving. Luckily this game doesn't have that flaw, Timesplitters 2 before it did however. All of the other controls for this game work great I have no complaints at all.

Overall 8/10

This game is definitely worth checking out and giving a play if you ask me. It's got a good enough story with enough humor to keep you well entertained the entire time. The controls are close to what modern gamers would be accustomed too so there won't be a loss of enjoyment there either. Just kick back, enjoy yourself and get ready for a few good laughs when you play this game!
