Baldur's Gate 2 - Fighter Stronghold Guide

The De'Arnise Keep Stronghold is available to Fighters, Monks, Barbarians and Blackguards. You will be able to claim this stronghold as your own after finishing The De'Arnise Keep Has Been Invaded side quest which begins by talking with Nalia in the Copper Coronet. If you accept this stronghold then you'll begin the Ruling the De'Arnise Keep and Lands side quest which is what this page documents.

How this quest works is you'll have multiple tasks/problems that you need to solve periodically at the De'Arnise Keep. Typically once a week is when each new task will become available; to start one of the tasks you'll have to speak with the Majordomo inside of De'Arnise Keep. Also, each week gold that is collected via taxes will be deposited into a chest on the 2nd floor of this keep in the Library. You can increase the amount of taxes collected from your subjects by talking with the Majordomo.

Each of these tasks have multiple outcomes depending on what you choose. One thing to consider is that being an evil ruler will increase the likelihood of a revolt from your subjects. If you increase the taxes it'll increase the likelihood that people revolt as well. If a revolt occurs you'll lose control of the De'Arnise Stronghold and fail this quest.

Task #1 - The Merchant Problem

The first task you'll recieve after taking control of De'Arnise Keep will involve a merchant who was attacked on your lands by a group of bandits. We'll have to decide what to do about the merchant and also what to do about the bandits on our property. You'll have a few different options to handle this situation but the best way to handle it is to repay the merchant in full (which means 1000G).

As for the bandits, the best thing to do is pay 500G to hire skilled mercenaries to deal with them. Choosing both of these options will get you the best outcome for this task which will earn you 15,000 EXP in total.

Task #2 - Guard Burglar

Much like with the previous task there are numerous ways for you to handle this one. If you want the best outcome what you'll need to do is listen to the guard about why he stole the items from you to learn about his sick wife. Give the guard 500G and forgive him for the crime he committed and you'll earn 15k EXP along with reducing the chance of revolt by 1.

Task #3 - Cleric of Tempus

Another really easy task, a Cleric of Tempus will ask you for permission setting up a shrine in De'Arnise Keep. For the best outcome you'll want to allow the Cleric to setup his shrine; you'll be rewarded 15k EXP and you'll also unlock a new vendor, Bolumir. You'll find Bolumir on the 2nd floor of your keep in the room that used to be the Golem Chambers. It's one of the central most rooms on the 2nd floor.
