Dream: Shield Rune Word - Diablo 2

Dream is one of the two highest level Rune Words that you can Socket into a shield. The only other Rune Word for Shields with a level 65 requirement is Phoenix. Many players prefer to use Dream in their Helm slot since the only other Rune Word available for Helms that is high level is Delirium and it isn't very good.

Typically those who choose Dream as their Rune Word do so for the Faster Hit Recovery (FHR) and the Holy Shock Aura that is gives you when equipped. It's worth noting that if you're playing on Diablo 2 version 1.14d then you can technically equip two Dream Rune Words (one in Shield and one in Helm) to get a level 30 Holy Shock Aura. Paladins have a build centered around this called Tesladin which puts points into Resist Lightning and Salvation to drastically boost the damage of this Aura.

Keep in mind that all Rune Words you create will retain any pre-existing bonuses found on the item. If you find a 'Superior' piece of armor with +Enhanced Defense, a Superior Weapon with +Enhanced Damage or a Helm/Weapon that has +Skill bonuses for a certain class, all of these will remain on the final Rune Word that is created. Farming High Runes: Out of all locations in the game one stands above the rest for farming specifically High Runes, the Countess during Act 1.
