Final Fantasy VI

As with all my Final Fantasy reviews I feel it's best to start the review saying I am bias towards the series in general as it's the series that caused me to fall in love with RPGs. With that said, this final fantasy falls somewhere in the middle for me. I didn't love it but I also didn't hate it. It was definitely a good game but the story didn't engulf or captivate me like others in the series did.

The game itself definitely has a long and pretty decent story, it can feel like it is dragging on at times. It has some amazing characters (Terra, Relm, Edgar) and some really unique ones that haven't really been done again in the series (Gau, Mog, Gogo, Umaro). The characters are probably the best part of the game as a whole. I haven't really seen such a dynamic cast done in a Final Fantasy game before.

Unlike the job system of the Final Fantasy before it, in 6 you learn all your magic from Espers which are summons contained in Magicite. It works kind of similar to the system in FF9 if you've played that. The game's story and how it is woven is probably what sets this Final Fantasy apart from all of the rest. I can't really get too into it without spoiling anything but in the "second chapter" of the game reaquiring almost every single character is optional. That may sound vague now, but once you play the game you'll understand. You learn a lot about each character during this time and arguably that was my favorite part of the game.

Learning the backstories of each character was really something. A lot went into each of them. Not to get side tracked, but I loved Relm's Theme. It's just so beautiful and amazing, much like the character herself. Her relationship with Strago and Interceptor was one of my favorites of the game.

Another thing they did really well in the game that was definitely memorable for me is each event that split the party up into different groups. It was really difficult and a lot of fun grinding everyone at the end of the game when I was under leveled for Kefka's Tower. I don't mean that sarcastically either, I really enjoy how they made you utilize just about every character in the game to conquer the tower.

Overall I would give FF6 a 3.5/5. I did enjoy it but it didn't really click with me like the others in the series did.
