Super Mario RPG

Most of us these days know of Paper Mario and the legacy that it created. However, before Paper Mario even came out there was a different Super Mario RPG for the SNES. This game is definitely a must play for any RPG fan, especially for fans out there of Paper Mario. Much like its predecessor it has a ton of tongue in cheek humor and a more action oriented turn based combat system. Even if you aren't a Mario fan, I think you'd really love this game.

The game itself is pretty long and is a mix of platforming, RPG elements and some mini games thrown in here and there to keep things interesting. Mario, Princess Peach and Bowser are 3 of the playable characters you'll recognize right off the bat. The game also introduces a few new characters though, Mallow and Geno. Both of which are playable and both of which have decent backstories to really make them lovable.

Much like the Mario platformers there's a lot of hidden gems throughout the game. Random hidden blocks are placed across the entire world, most of which with decent rewards to make them worth hunting for or following a walkthrough to acquire them. It really does well in mixing the Roleplaying elements of RPGs and the platforming elements of Mario, making it a perfect game for fans of both.

Also, I must say that the soundtrack to this game is really awesome and contributes a lot to the playing experience. Honestly, this is probably in my top 5 for favorite RPGs for the Super Nintendo.
