Make Money Using Barter While Leveling

Barter Window

One of the best money making tips I can give you while leveling up is to utilize the Barter System. You can check what items are being bought in Barter by typing /bar anywhere in the world. Alternatively you can check any item in your inventory instantly by holding down Alt + Shift and then Left Clicking an item in your inventory.

Whichever route you take to open the barter window - it'll look similar to what's shown in the screenshot above. As you can see in the picture above I searched for Sunshard Ore and there are currently 7 different buyers listed for that item.

This is an example of one of the best selling items you'll get while leveling up to sell through Barter. Keep in mind that Bartering is just a way to instantly get money and it's by no means the best money you can get for that specific item. Setting up a Bazaar trader and selling the item that way will usually net you 5 - 10x more than what you get selling in Barter.

That may sound a bit outrageous and it kind of is - but all that aside even if you hate the concept of resellers I still strongly recommend you offload your loot in Barter at first. Unless you plan to run a trader side by side while you play - we need the plat.

Here is a list of items that you'll probably want to barter while you're leveling up:

These are a majority of the items that you'll find being purchased by Barters while leveling up. In addition to everything mentioned above you'll also want to try and sell all cultural Ore, Silk and Pelts that you come across while leveling up. There are TONS of these items so listing them all like I did the others would be more confusing just telling you what to look for.

You can tell Cultural items apart from all other items because it has a Recommended and Required level on the Tradeskill item - like what's shown in the screen shot below. As you can see the Rhenium Ore and Fine Silk both have the same Rec/Req levels. These are Cultural Items.

There will be a new set of Cultural items every 4/5 levels and they are all called different things. The only consistent thing about them is that all the Cultural Animal Pelts are called Animal Pelts; all the Silk is called Silk and all the Ore is called Ore. What I mean is you're not going to see anything like "Befouled Swatch" - it's called Befouled Silk, Befouled Ore and Befouled Animal Pelt.

The Icons will always be Animal Pelts, Silk and Ore as well just usually alternating colors with every new level bracket. Not all of it will sell and some of it will sell really well. It all depends on the server you're playing on and their current market demands.

Regardless - if you sell everything mentioned on this page to a Barter you should have enough plat while leveling up to buy spells, pay for your mercenary and also occasionally snatch up some gear from The Bazaar. If you're playing on FV you'll definitely have enough plat to gear yourself out.
